8th Pay Commission
8th Pay Commission has not reported yet; Mumbai visit listed for 22–23 October, none after
The Government has told Parliament the Commission has made no recommendations yet, and the Commission's own calendar shows no events after its Mumbai visit of 22–23 October.

Key facts
- The Commission was set up on 3 November 2025 and must make its recommendations within 18 months, so by about early May 2027.
- On 10 August 2026 the Government told the Lok Sabha the Commission has not submitted its recommendations.
- Its calendar lists a visit to Mumbai on 22 and 23 October 2026 and nothing for November or December.
- The last date for memoranda was 15 June 2026.
The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025, chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. Its terms of reference give it 18 months to make recommendations on pay, allowances and pensions, which runs to about early May 2027, and allow interim reports.
No recommendations yet
Asked in the Lok Sabha on 10 August 2026 about the implementation date and the fitment factor, the Government replied that the Commission has not submitted its recommendations. On 28 July 2026 it told the Rajya Sabha that the Commission devises its own procedure and is not required to report its progress or likely recommendations, and on 11 August 2026 it repeated that the recommendations will come within 18 months of the Commission's constitution.
In another Lok Sabha answer on 10 August 2026, the Government put the number of civilian central government employees at about 35.77 lakh (1 March 2026), and pensioners and family pensioners, excluding defence, at about 33.76 lakh (31 December 2025).
Consultations
Memoranda were accepted online from 5 March to 15 June 2026. Since July the Commission's calendar has listed visits to Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, Puducherry, Chandigarh and Bengaluru, and its notice of 21 September 2026 announced a visit to Mumbai on 22 and 23 October. Its website's event calendar lists no meetings or visits for November or December 2026 (checked 23 October).
What this means
There is no official fitment factor, new pay matrix or date of implementation yet. These visits are consultations; they do not settle pay. Until the Commission reports and the Government decides, every 8th Pay Commission figure, including ours, is an estimate.
